The Safest Tomato in America
Tomatoes are having a hard time finding friends this summer. With salmonella outbreaks, restaurants and food fans alike are proving to be fair weather friends to this little fruit that is oft mistaken as a vegetable. There is hope. Grow your own tomatoes now before the government decides to take an interest in things we grow on our own property for our own consumption. Wait. I think that might have already happened.
In any case, this tomato was grown upside down with all organic soil and was watered lovingly with rain water. It was nurtured by the sweet sounds of the neighbors playing Madonna's greatest hits every day for a week. Of course given that, I'm surprised it's not cone shaped. Mary, who has no idea who Madonna is, will not get that reference at all. So I may be old, but with wisdom comes the ability to grow your own food. And that's pretty cool.

Oh Material Girl, the only memory i have is at the old house by the creek in tansi that had the creepy den with the fire place and where I saw the ghost with the long nose. But anyway, you getting up in the morning and cranking up on the "record player" some material girl to get going. Im not sure why you did or that or why I remember it. Hmm the things we remember as "pawns in the plan."
Awesome! Glad to hear your upside down method worked. My plants look good but no tomatoes yet.
As for the "Material Girl" reference, I have totally blocked all memories of that house, that time period (except for the good stuff) and the associated people.
That is a fine looking tomato. Nice job.
I think you should try to force the next one to assume an unnatural shape, like the guys at Epcot with their Mickey Mouse shaped veggies:

That's just weird Beth. I was wondering if I could make square tomatoes. :-)
Sure you can. Next time just wait until the baby tomato forms, then tie a plastic cage to the stem above it. Those little sheets that crafty people make needlepoint thingys out of would work just fine!
