Cool CD

I've already bugged Boomer mercilessly about buying a copy of this for himself.
If you like Alison Krauss, or I imagine, Robert Plant, you'd like this cd.
I especially like "Killing the Blues" and "Rich Woman."

Click here for the Amazon link to take a look at the other songs.

I also highly recommend A Hundred Miles or More, which is the cd she released before this one. The music is a mixture of folk and bluegrass, with some nice duets as well.

P.S. Thanks to Eva for this most awesome Christmas present :-)

Libby will be jealous

This is Richard taking a nap with Boo. The cats can't resist the lure of the sleeping human.

Weirdness in the Universe

There is a universal constant that states: The more expensive a cat item purchased, the more the cat tends to ignore said item. We have suffered through this with the cat tunnel (39.99 with shipping and handling), assorted cat toys, various cat beds . We were promised in the catalog that the cats would have hours of fun. They sniffed and walked off. We finally replaced the tunnel with a long narrow box with a hole cut in one side for entry/exit. They love it. One goes in, one sits on the top and jumps up and down. They put toys in it. Libby even sleeps in it.

So imagine our surprise when 3, count them 3, cats chose to sit on the new electrostatic pads we bought. I bought them in an attempt to get some of the floating cat hair out of the air in the office. We didn't have a lot of takers the first night, but today, Tilly, Boo and Libby took naps on it.

Of course, that was the most exciting thing that happened today here in Spring Hill. :-)

As for things the cats love, the fleece throw Beth gave me for Christmas a few years ago ranks top of the list. I usually leave it the living room in the place where sammy sleeps. If I snuggle under it, she must sit on it. Sometimes when we have gone too long without lap time, she comes and gets me, goes to my recliner, looks at the recliner and then looks at me. If I sit down without the fleece throw or the afghan, she goes to it and looks at it like "hey there, we have a system here." Then she sleeps belly-side up while I read and watch tv.

They also like some old blue pillows, a very pretty throw I bought pre-cat that is not supposed to be washed and a small blue blanket, that as far as I can tell, we must have bought it for them because I've never used it for anything else. The electrostatic pads are nice and they do collect hair and are easy to clean. I see a great need for more in our future :-) Although I think I will put down the Drs. Foster and Smith catalog before I buy the microwavable cat bed or the cat fountain with hydroponic cat greens included (I am not kidding you).

Train People

This was such a good picture of us and Matt, I decided to put it up here. If you would like to see more pictures of our excursion trip with the family, you can go to Beth's blog (in our featured blogs.) Matt is swiftly being inducted into the society of train people.

This is only natural, as his uncle Richard is the king of the train people. When Richard and I got to train shows, and trust me, we have been to many, I always wander off so that he can buy things without me standing over his shoulder chanting "budget, groceries, budget." I'll occasionally think I'll see him in the crowd (plaid shirt, check; black ball cap, check; glasses, check) But no. It's like there are little Richard clones running around every where.

I should get some kind of award for going to train shows. Little patches like you get in Scouts, except they would be for things like eating a bad hotdog or looking with interest at some green foam in a plastic bin. I did drag Richard to a craft fair once to try to even the score, and boy was he bored, but alas, so was I. So that kind of backfired.

The things we do for the people we love. :-)

Mom's recipes II

Oh, and the homemade carrot cake! That one is tasty.

Mom's recipes

I've added a link to my mom's blog (to the left in the list of links). She has a few favorites on there now. I have to suggest the chicken pot pie because it is really good. I'm going to have to talk her into posting her lasagna recipe for the masses, as well as the cheese and ham bites recipe. Come on Mom, get to work :-)
